Bamboo – sustainable, beautiful and unique recognition and gift ideas

We love bamboo – and have introduced several more unique items as part of our goingreen(R) collection.  Bamboo is a more sustainable alternative to traditional hardwoods and is extremely durable.  Here are a few interesting facts about bamboo and what makes it sustainable…

Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on the planet (technically it is in the grass family), with some species growing up to four feet per day! It takes between three and five years to be ready to harvest, compared to 30-50 years for hardwoods. It produces more oxygen than a forest of comparable size and prevents erosion. It can grow without pesticides or chemicals. It is totally degradable and regenerates on its own. It is a wonderfully versatile material that can be made into hundreds of products ranging from gorgeous hardwood flooring to sturdy furniture to luxuriously soft towels and clothing fabric.

  1. Interesting. A lot of things I didn’t know about bamboo. To be honest I didn’t know those unique qualities – but now I do I guess. Makes a lot more sense how bamboo is considered a green alternative.
