Norwood & BIC Graphic North America participated in the Community College to Career Tour, designed to highlight innovative workforce training partnerships. On November 18, 2013, Richard Abbey, Director of Human Resources for Norwood & BIC Graphic (third from right in photo below), joined Second Lady, Dr. Jill Biden, and Labor Secretary Tom Perez at an event at Broward College in Florida.

The purpose of the visit was to meet with students, tour innovative labs and classrooms and learn more about the Labor Department’s Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training grants. Perez and Biden also participated in a round-table discussion to emphasize the importance of partnerships between educators and business, such as Broward College and local manufacturing and logistics companies. Broward College, Saint Petersburg College, and other Florida-based colleges are training workers in inventory management and logistics for shipping and other industries, bridging the skills gap between the unemployed and the training employers require in the Florida area.
